On Tuesday, November 9, 2021, Róisin Claire Hennessy (Marie Curie Co-Fund CONEX Fellow, Carlos III University of Madrid) will participate in the 78th session of the TDJ workshop to present her project: "Vulnerable Subjects of Law and Sustainable Development – Re-thinking the Normative, Legal and Policy Dimensions of Social Protection Systems".
Dr. Róisin Hennessy holds a PhD in Law from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, where she was awarded the O'Brien Fellowship, working within the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism. At McGill University, she completed her doctoral thesis titled: Economic Exploitation and Child Labour: Towards a Structural Approach to International Labour Law and Human Rights. Dr. Hennessy also holds a law degree from the National University of Cork, Ireland, and a European Master's in Human Rights and Democratization (2003). Academically, she has taught a variety of courses, including areas of human rights and immigration law. Her professional experience includes more than 12 years as a senior expert at the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission and, more recently, at the Irish Department of Justice and Equality. In this context, she has authored a wide range of policy recommendations, reports, and submissions on human rights and equality issues, which have been presented to United Nations agencies, the European Council, EU mechanisms, and the Irish national government and parliament. She has also worked in Guatemala at an NGO supporting survivors of domestic violence and has participated in various capacity-building projects on the rule of law in Ethiopia, funded by Irish Aid. Her research focuses on areas of international labor law and human rights, social rights, social protection, and welfare systems, vulnerable populations, sustainable development, as well as critical legal feminist and philosophical theory.
