The international network Falling in Law – International Network of Law and Culture announces the premiere of the short film “LA SCELTA” (The Choice). The film is directed by Antonio Albanese and Francesco Maria Albanese, and features screenplay, original music, and artistic direction by Rigel Bellombra.
After its pre-premiere on November 28 in Chile and Argentina, the film will have its in-person premiere on December 6 in Bologna, where it will be screened out of competition at the “Cinevasioni” Festival. From that date on, LA SCELTA will begin an international tour through universities, cultural institutions, and specialized festivals. Among the next confirmed presentations is the city of Valencia, one week after the premiere.
Each year, millions of girls around the world are forced into marriage without having chosen it. LA SCELTA addresses this reality from an ethical, educational, and legal perspective, offering the story of a young woman who finds the courage to rebel against an imposed destiny. The film was made with the participation of students and professors from various international universities, united by a common goal: to raise awareness, educate in freedom, and denounce all forms of imposition, violence, or discrimination.
A collaboration between Italy and Spain
Some of the most symbolic scenes were filmed on Calle San Clemente in Toledo, the same location where Luis Buñuel shot Tristana. In Buñuel’s film, the protagonist —played by Catherine Deneuve— pauses at a crossroads symbolizing the decision between obedience and freedom. LA SCELTA revisits this gesture and reinterprets it in a contemporary key, showing that new generations can open different paths.
The filming in Toledo featured the presence and participation of numerous Spanish scholars, gathered in the city in November 2025 for an academic meeting of AEDL (Spanish Association of Law and Culture). Among the participants is Delia Budeanu, Predoctoral Researcher at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and member of the Falling in Law Studies Commission, who appears as the protagonist of a scene in the song that closes the film.
